Prof. John W. Makokha (Principal Investigator)

Prof. Makokha is an Associate Professor of Atmospheric and Environmental Physics and a distinguished climate change specialist with extensive experience in climate and biodiversity research. As the Principal Investigator and Kibabii University Project Coordinator, he provides overall leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for project implementation and dissemination. He has a proven track record in managing multidisciplinary research initiatives and translating scientific findings into policy-relevant outputs. His expertise in environmental systems and climate dynamics positions him to effectively guide the project toward impactful and sustainable outcomes.

Prof. Joshua Olang’o Abuya (Co-Principal Investigator)

Prof. Abuya is an Associate Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and currently serves as Director of Research and Innovation. A seasoned plant conservationist and research leader, he brings a wealth of experience in sustainable development and interdisciplinary research. As Co-Principal Investigator, he will guide the research design, oversee data interpretation, and support the publication of findings to contribute to the global knowledge base on plant conservation. His work spans sustainable waste management, climate change logistics, and technology-driven solutions, with a strong track record of delivering impactful projects addressing pressing environmental and societal challenges.

Prof. Rispah Wepukhulu (Project Member)

Prof. Rispah Wepukhulu is an Associate Professor in Educational, Communication and Technology with extensive expertise in governance, gender mainstreaming, strategic leadership, and alternative dispute resolution. In this project, she will lead communication capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and gender mainstreaming initiatives. Her multidisciplinary background equips her to foster inclusive participation, strengthen institutional frameworks, and ensure ethical and effective project implementation across diverse stakeholder groups.

Dr. Dorcus Arshley Shisoka (Project Member)

Dr. Shisoka is a Lecturer in Computer Science with strong expertise in digital systems, data analytics, and analytical methodologies. Within the project, she is responsible for integrating digital tools into research processes and overseeing monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure effective tracking of progress and outcomes. She also leads digital content development for the project’s online courses, ensuring high-quality, engaging, and accessible learning materials. In addition, Dr. Shisoka coordinates the dissemination of project findings through appropriate digital platforms and communication channels, enhancing visibility, knowledge sharing, and impact.

Dr. Irene Simiyu (Project Member)

Dr. Simiyu is a Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy, specializing in Educational Communication Technology. She leads curriculum development and capacity-building initiatives, organizing training programs for stakeholders to promote sustainability practices. Dr. Simiyu has significant experience in international collaborative projects, notably as a member of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project (AHEAD: African Higher Education Leadership in Advancing Inclusive Innovation for Development, 2017–2020). Her expertise in pedagogy and educational innovation will strengthen knowledge transfer and stakeholder engagement.

Dr. Robert W. Nyukuri (Project Member)

Dr. Nyukuri is a Senior Lecturer in Zoology and Entomology and an expert in climate change interactions with ecosystems. As an entomologist and plant diversity specialist, he will provide critical insights into indigenous knowledge systems, land use change, and human-environment interactions. His role will also include supporting research on biodiversity conservation and contributing to teaching and knowledge dissemination on environmental sustainability. Dr. Nyukuri’s experience as a lead consultant on ecosystem-climate interactions enhances the scientific rigor of the project.

Dr. Yvonne Kariuki (Project Member)

Dr. Kariuki is a Junior Lecturer and researcher in Pure Mathematics, specializing in Combinatorics and mathematical modelling. She will play a key role in data analysis, working closely with digital and analytical teams to ensure accuracy and robustness of research findings. Additionally, she will coordinate digital forums and contribute to the development of analytical models that support evidence-based decision-making within the project.

Mr. Victor Okello (Project Member)

Mr. Okello is a Lecturer in Botany and an experienced plant taxonomist with expertise in systematics, habitat restoration, and conservation biology. He will be responsible for plant identification, development of species inventories, and mapping of biodiversity hotspots and habitats. His role will also include translating research findings into sustainable conservation strategies. Mr. Okello has participated in several conservation projects, bringing practical experience in plant systematics and ecological restoration.

Mr. Meshack Nyambane Makori (Project Member)

Mr. Makori is the Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing and a Junior Research Fellow in Marketing with extensive experience in higher education communications. He will lead branding, strategic communications, and media engagement for the project, ensuring effective dissemination of research outputs to diverse audiences. His expertise in stakeholder communication, public relations, and institutional branding will enhance the project’s visibility, outreach, and impact.
